Honor for old flags

Rex Hardin
Pompano Beach
Posted September 30 2006

For years I have proudly flown the U.S. flag outside my home. As my flag gets worn, I have removed it and
replaced it with a new version.

I know you are not supposed to throw out a flag with the garbage, so I wound up having quite a number of old
flags that I was storing. The American Legion Post 142 here in Pompano Beach has installed a couple of old
mailboxes that have been repainted and labeled as flag drop boxes for old flags. Now drop your old flag in the
box, and the Legion will burn it in an honorable manner. Thanks to the American Legion Post 142 for making it
easier to properly dispose of our old flags.

"The service officer fund is still accepting contributions. The service
officer fund has been set up to help needy veterans in emergency
situations. It is set up in such a way that allows these needy veterans to
receive help in a confidential manner. See the bartender or any post
officer to make a donation. Thank you again for all of your support."
